I’m not sure what it is, some combination of aerial pollutant deposition and physical contact with the not-so-clean, but my hands are nearly always very dirty.  Every time I wash my hands, which is often here, the water running off is tinged various shades of gray, brown or black.  And my fingernails are constantly collected black gunk beneath them. There’s a laudable focus on washing hands in Kenya.  Every restaurant has a small sink outside of the bathrooms with some soap that is specifically for washing up before eating.  That said, my hands seem to go from the better side of the cleanliness spectrum to the other quite quickly.  Maybe it’s my fault?

All right, I’m off to wash.
